MVCC 2019 Kid’s Golf Camp
What? Mountain View Country Club is offering a one-week golf camp for children age 6 through 14.
When? 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday, July 29 to Friday, August 2.
Who? Activities will be led by nineteen year-old Kyle Wright, who has been an MVCC member since birth and was our Club Men’s Golf Champion in each of 2016, 2017 and 2018. A four handicap golfer, Kyle’s golfing achievements include four years on the varsity golf team of Mount Mansfield Union High School in Underhill, Vermont, where he was ranked the #1 golf player on the team, named team captain, and won state-wide recognition as captain of the Vermont All-State Second Team. Kyle also has competed in the New England PGA Junior Tour and recently finished his freshman year at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.
included? Parents are responsible for bringing their children to the Pro Shop by 12:55 pm each day and picking them up by 5:05 p.m. A typical session will include time on both our practice range and practice putting green for instruction in golf fundamentals, as well as the opportunity to get out on the course for the “real thing”. The precise mix of instruction and actual play will depend on the skill level of our participants. A healthy snack (fresh fruit, “Cliff” or “Kind” bars and a juice box) will be provided by the Club in the middle of the afternoon each day.
The fee covers practice balls and tees, as well the snack. Participants should plan on providing their own golf clubs as MVCC does not have a supply of children’s golf clubs. These can be obtained on-line or from most reputable sporting goods stores and should be sized based on your child’s age, height and golfing experience. Friday afternoon’sw session will end with an informal barbecue (hamburgers and hot dogs) and awards ceremony.
Parents of children with dietary restrictions or special dietary needs should notify the Club at the time of application and provide a separate snack for their child each day. Regrettably, the Club cannot administer medications.
Cost? $50 per child. Non-members also pay a $30 per child access fee. Gratuities for our camp staff are not included.
Sign-up? First-come, first served. Space is limited and priority will be given first to children who participate in their parents’ family membership and children who hold an MVCC “Under 21” playing permit. After Tuesday July 23, non-member children will be able to sign up if space is available. A link to our application form can be found here and should be printed out, completed and returned to the Pro Shop.
Questions? Call Brian Titus, our Pro Shop head, at 533-7477.
The Men’s July Handicap starts at 8:30 AM on July 20th. This is a one day event with tee times starting at 8:30 on Saturday July 20th
The entry fee is $10.
- 1 for a bogey
- 2 for a par
- 4 for a birdie
- 8 for an eagle
- 12 for an double eagle
For the handicap, points are based on your net score. As an example, if you par a hole you get a stroke on, it’s a net birdie for 4 points. For the senior championship, points are based on your gross score.
Bring your kids and friends and meet and greet fellow members and their families at MVCC. We meet on the porch of the kids’ club building at Mountain View Country Club and let the kids have the run of the first fairway while parents, grandparents and really anyone else enjoys an informal summer cocktail party. Pizza is provided for children (so you can avoid having to cook that night). Non-members welcome for $5/kid or $20/family. Please sign up at the Pro Shop (533-7477) or by logging into your Club Express account at least 24 hours before the event.

This years Throwdown at Mountain View on July 5th was the best ever. The weather was fantastic as more than 90 members and guests came out to taste our 5 entries for the “cocktail of the night”, eat barbecue from Smokey D’s BBQ truck, play bocce and just sit on the porch as chat on an absolutely beautiful Greensboro Summer evening. Our Throwdown winners for 2019 were Patty, Mike and David Kreider – but the votes were close. Thanks very much to the the Kreiders, Sherilyn Peterson and Dan Coyle, Frank Baker and Lyn Norris-Baker, Julie and Steve Parker, and the Ely family for their contributions to a successful evening! Cupcakes rounded out the evening following outstanding barbecue sandwiches provided from Smokey D’s vintage Ford truck set up in front of the kids house next to Court 1.
